Arable and Corn Crops
For the past few years we have been experimenting with different wheat varieties in order to investigate the feasibility of producing a bread quality wheat in our climate. We have also grown other corn crops, mostly oats and rye.
We have had some success, and have produced flour of good baking quality. Development continues, trialling different wheat varieties and trying different methods of growing, harvesting, drying and cleaning the grain.
We usually harvest using a reaper/binder and then thresh later in the year when the grain has matured 'in the sheaf'. We also have a small combine harvester for use when the grain is sufficiently dry.
