Low Stanger Farm

Low Stanger Farm lies within the small settlement of Stanger.  The hamlet is a peaceful place, at the end of a no-through lane, and with the river Cocker running hard-by.

Yet Stanger is only two miles from Cockermouth, a beautiful town at the meeting point of two rivers.  Cockermouth has retained a diverse range of the shops, cafes, restaurants, pubs and banks, as well as being an interesting place in its right (for more information, please see Local Attractions section of this site).

Stanger enjoys a wonderful location in the Lorton Valley.  From the top of the lane runs the road to Loweswater, Crummock and Buttermere, a quiet corner of Lakeland, but one of the most beautiful.  Footpaths and a bridleway run from the farm itself, along the river bank and up to the surrounding fells.

The farm itself has a collection of interesting traditional buildings, and a beck runs through the farm yard.  We are currently establishing a market garden in the surrounding fields, and are planning, in time, an extensive orchard.

The self-catering accommodation is in a two-storey annex attached to the farmhouse – until the horse era passed in the 1950’s, the farm horses were housed here.  Now, it is a two-bedroomed cottage, which sleeps four.

Seasonal vegetables, fruit and eggs are available from the farm, and we can arrange doorstep milk deliveries.
